Join the 3rd Annual Adopt-A-Stop Community Bus Stop Cleanup for a Day of Service
May 23, 2024

ALBUQUERQUE  – ABQ RIDE and the Transit Advisory Board are seeking 100 community volunteers for a day of service to clean bus stops along the historic Route 66 on Saturday, June 1 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.. The 3rd Annual Adopt-A-Stop Community Bus Stop Cleanup will target bus stops in the International District from Girard to Wyoming to ensure they are looking their best for the Albuquerque Pride Parade the following Saturday.

Volunteers will convene at the Uptown Transit Center and be picked up by ABQ RIDE. They will be transported from stop-to-stop until the completion of the event. The day of service provides volunteers with the opportunity to ride the bus and experience the transit system, as they help make bus stops clean and accessible for the community.

“Our transit system is an important part of daily life for so many Albuquerque families, said Mayor Tim Keller. “Whether you ride the bus to work, or just pass by any of our many bus stops across town, working together to keep these stops clean is an investment in a safer, more beautiful city for us all.”

On this volunteer day and beyond, ABQ RIDE encourages community members to pick up trash when they see it, call 243-RIDE if there are issues on the bus, and to consider adopting a bus stop.

“This day of service is part of a bigger vision to empower the community to take pride in and ownership of our transit system,” said Transit Director Leslie Keener. “I hope the event brings volunteers a sense of motivation and accountability to help keep up the cleanup year-round!”

Adopt-A-Stop is a program that aspires to maintain a debris and graffiti-free bus stops to enhance the public transportation experience. The program calls upon groups or individuals from the community to participate in weekly maintenance and vigilance at their adopted bus stop.

Volunteers must register for the cleanup event on the One Albuquerque Volunteers website. Find more information about the Adopt-A-Stop.
