ABQ RIDE Shifts Careers into Drive
ALBUQUERQUE – Dozens of applicants shuttled through the Ken Sanchez Transit Facility today to apply and interview for ABQ RIDE positions at the ABQ RIDE Hiring Event.
“Jobs in City transit can be a game-changer for families,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Launching a career in City Transit provides solid jobs that can steer families toward financial security and growth opportunities with safety nets for health challenges, life obstacles, and retirement.”
ABQ RIDE is ramping up its hiring efforts by providing unbeatable benefits, growth opportunities, and hiring incentives in order to bring more service to the public and buses to the road.
“We want this to be our employees’ last job”, said Transit Director Leslie Keener. “ABQ RIDE is focused on employee-centeredness. We want to provide a positive workplace culture and a supportive community for current employees and new ones as we welcome them into the transit community so they stay with us until retirement.”
“ABQ RIDE’s hiring events are easy, convenient, and they practically do all the work for you,” said Motorcoach Operator Denise Muñiz-Archibeque. “Just show up, fill out a few forms, answer questions, and walk out with endless possibilities… I did!”
Working at ABQ RIDE includes the following benefits for employees:
- Serve the public and get to know the community
- Enjoy upwards of $15K in City benefits annually including health, pharmacy, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term / long-term disability, flexible spending, voluntary, accident and critical illness, deferred compensation, and retirement benefits
- Applicants needing a CDL get FREE training and testing on-the-job, worth $5K in value
- New bus drivers can earn $72K+ in total value annually with salary, benefits, and hiring incentives and $85K+ after three years of employment or more if they opt to work extra hours
- City employees can establish Primary Care at a free onsite clinic with zero copay visits for employee and benefits-eligible family members
“[The Hiring Event] was a great experience today – it was welcoming from parking, to coming inside, and getting my application status and interviews done,” said community applicant Rebecca Gonzales. “I applied for and received a Motorcoach Operator position with a CDL hiring incentive and am excited to have an opportunity to use that [certification] at a City job. Other jobs I’ve been applying for require experience… and how do you get experience with no job or get experience without a job. It’s great that ABQ RIDE is willing to give us a chance. This is definitely a life-altering career change for me.”
“ABQ RIDE made some great hires today and still has more roles to fill,” said Transit HR Manager Thomas Martinez. “It’s not too late to apply if you are interested and couldn’t attend the event today – apply on the City of Albuquerque website.”
