“Stories of Us” Honors Former Mayor David Rusk
ALBUQUERQUE – Former Mayor David Rusk was honored today with the dedication of ABQ RIDE’s original transit facility and the KiMo Theatre’s orchestra pit, both now bearing his name. Rusk, who served as Albuquerque’s mayor from 1977-1981, advocated for smart and inclusive growth, sustainability, and public safety in transit. He was also instrumental in the renovation of the KiMo theater, envisioning it as the future centerpiece of Downtown's transformation into an arts and entertainment center.
The Yale Transit Facility, now the Mayor David Rusk Transit Facility, is an internal transit operations facility focused on career growth and training, tech innovation, and beautification. This facility holds historic significance as Albuquerque’s first bus transit facility and the City’s only transit facility for decades until an expansion in the 2000s.
“The heart of this facility is to train, grow future leaders, and create an environment for the transit system to thrive and better serve the public,” said Transit Director Leslie Keener. “I hope Mayor Rusk is proud of ABQ RIDE’s progress and what our department is doing to improve public safety and increase equity.”
