Be Aware of What Goes in Your Bin
- All containers must be accessible for pick-up from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. unless otherwise agreed upon.
- Do not place hazardous materials i.e. anything flammable, corrosive, reactive, or toxic into your bin.
- Do not place any other combustibles.
- Do not place hot ashes or coals into your bin.
- Do not put medications in the trash. See Disposal of Pharmaceuticals for more information.
- Do not put construction or demolition waste.

Landfill Fees
- $30/ton, municipal waste
- $39.86/ton, special burial (materials needing immediate burial, including dead animals)
- Petroleum-contaminated soils:
- $26.25 per ton = 1,000 ppm or less
- $31.50 per ton = 15,000 ppm or less
- $47.25 per ton = 15,000 ppm or greater
- $222.86 per ton, used tires
- $5.54 extra for unsecured or uncovered loads
Important Commercial Forms
- The Solid Waste Management Department does not control the design of a bin enclosure. We do provide minimum width, length, and height for varied enclosures. Download the Enclosure Specifications.
- The City of Albuquerque's annual hauling permit is $12 for the first vehicle and $3 for any additional vehicles. Download the Hauling Permit Form.
Commercial Collection
Commercial trash collection services and routes vary depending on the amount of trash, the size of the container, and the accessibility of the container. Refuse containers can be leased or purchased from a local private operator or through the city. Before obtaining a container, please contact us at 505-761-8100 for more information. Collection routes available include the following:
- Front loader (two, four, six, or eight cubic yard lift bin)
- Compactor/Roll-Off (17-40 cubic yard open top bins)
- Rear packers (rear load containers)
Holiday Schedules
Trash collection is delayed by one day for the following holidays:
- Thanksgiving
- Christmas
- New Year’s Day
If the holiday is observed on a weekend, commercial pick-up will be delayed by one day.
Services
We offer several services to our commercial customers.
Hauling
Commercial haulers with valid permits may dispose of trash at the Cerro Colorado landfill.
Recycling
We offer commercial recycling to qualified commercial properties. Call 505-761-8100 for more information
Commercial Permits
We issue permits to private haulers for the transport of refuse including construction and demolition materials, plant materials, and recycling. For more information please call 505-761-8100.
Open-Top Containers
A special permit is required to place an open-top container on a public street. Contact your municipality for more information on what's required to obtain a permit.
Uncontained Trash Pick-Up
Excess garbage or yard waste that does not fit into your commercial refuse container can be picked up for a fee. Property owners may request a special pick-up Monday-Saturday by phone at least 24 hours in advance for a $59.31 service fee. Call 311 to schedule.
Large Item Pick-Up
Commercial customers must pay $59.31 per large item pick-up request. If you have large items or excess trash, you can make arrangements with the department to pick them up for an additional $59.31. Additional charges will apply if the service requires additional staff time and equipment. Call 311 to schedule a pick-up.
Hazardous Waste
Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center is only permitted to receive residential materials. All commercial hazardous waste, including waste from public agencies, businesses, and non-profits must be disposed of through a state permitted vendor.
