Save the Date for the Recyclothes Clothing Drive
March 6, 2023
Get a head start on your spring cleaning while helping students in need at the 11th annual Recyclothes Clothing Drive, a project that aims to meet the needs of thousands of Albuquerque-area children who go without necessities. Keep Albuquerque Beautiful, a program of the Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD), and Locker #505 are teaming up to sponsor the event on March 18 at Hinkle Fun Center.
“Just bringing us a bag or two of clothing you no longer need can help make a big difference,” said SWMD Director Matthew Whelan. “We hope to make an even bigger impact on students’ lives this year and surpass last year’s all-time donation record of 16,640 pounds.”
All donations will be delivered to Locker #505, which partners with schools in the Albuquerque Metro to help ensure students in need have clothes, shoes, undergarments, and coats so they can focus on learning. Since opening in 2014, Locker #505 has served more than 12,000 students.
“Every year the number of students we serve grows, so we are thrilled to be working with the City of Albuquerque Solid Waste Management Department again this year,” said Locker #505’s Executive Director Kim Kerschen. “We can’t wait to replenish the clothing we’ve given to the more than 2,500 students we have seen so far this year.”
Please bring your new and gently used clothing for K-12 students to Hinkle Fun Center located at 12901 Indian School NE from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the NW corner of the parking lot on March 18.
