Community Unites Around Bosque Beautification Efforts
ALBUQUERQUE – Today, community members ran through the Bosque for Keep Albuquerque Beautiful’s annual Dash for the Trash cleanup, formerly known as Junk Jog. Residents from across the City came together for this unique, family friendly event combining exercise, sustainability, and competition.
Dashers completed a three-mile loop through the Bosque near Central Avenue and Sunset Road, each collecting an average of three large bags of trash. Prizes were given to the individuals and groups who collected the most litter.
“One Albuquerque is all about providing families with opportunities to come together to enjoy the beauty of our city while working to it the best it can be,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Getting creative in our approach to environmental stewardship involves integrating sustainability, education, and activism with fun, community-led initiatives.”
“Dash for the Trash is one of the City’s most unique events focused on preserving our natural environment,” said Solid Waste Management Director Billy Gallegos. “The Bosque is a special place for many Albuquerque families and this event provides the perfect opportunity for the community to help take care of it.”
This weekend’s event completed the second of KAB’s series of fall community cleanup initiatives focused on eliminating waste and beautifying Albuquerque. The final fall event, Fixit Clinic, will be held on Friday, October 25 at Fuse Makerspace. Residents who have items in need of fixing are encouraged to register for a timeslot via One ABQ Volunteers.
