Help Spread Holiday Cheer to Older Adults in Need

City’s Senior Affairs Department announces Holiday Donation Drive
November 06, 2024

This holiday season, the Department of Senior Affairs is calling on the community to help spread cheer and comfort to those who need it the most. Starting this week, the Department is collecting items for older adults in need as part of its Annual Holiday Donation Drive.

“We know the holidays can be a difficult time for many of our older adults, especially those experiencing social isolation,” said Anna Sanchez, Director of Senior Affairs. “By collecting these essential items, we’re able to bring a little holiday cheer to their homes and make sure they feel supported.”

The Department is collecting a variety of much-needed items including protein drinks, socks, hygiene products, and household supplies. The donations will be used to create care packages and delivered to low-income and homebound older adults in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County.

“The holidays are a great time to reflect on what it means to be part of a community,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Lending a hand to our senior neighbors, helping them feel valued and cared for, is what OneAlbuquerque is all about.”

Items needed:

  • Protein drinks (Ensure, Boost)
  • Adult Depends
  • Socks
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Laundry detergent
  • Manicure and grooming sets
  • Tissue and toilet paper

Donations will be accepted until November 27, 2024, and can be made online via Amazon or dropped off an any Albuquerque senior or multigenerational center. See a full list of drop-off locations.
