City Announces Plans for New Multigenerational Center in Santa Barbara-Martineztown
A new multigenerational center will soon be coming to Santa Barbara-Martineztown Park.
The City plans to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new $4 million center at a ceremony to be held this summer. The project is expected to be completed in early 2024, and will be added to the Department of Senior Affairs’ slate of multigenerational centers.
"The City is committed to expanding families' access to resources, programming, and spaces for fellowship," said Mayor Tim Keller. "As one of our city's most historic neighborhoods, it's great to see Santa Barbara-Martineztown getting a modern community space that will be enjoyed for generations to come."
The new 5,000 square-foot multigenerational center will feature services for both youth and seniors including senior meals, out-of-school programs, a computer lab, and meeting space.
“We are excited to get this project started for the Santa Barbara-Martineztown neighborhood,” said Director of Senior Affairs Anna Sanchez. “This center will offer direct access to services and programs for youth, seniors, and everyone in between.”
While the center will be located at the site of the Santa Barbara-Martineztown Park, site plans call to preserve the park’s green space, baseball fields, and historic mural.
