Today, members of Albuquerque’s older adult community gathered at Manzano Mesa Multigenerational Center to enjoy a traditional holiday meal and celebrate the season together.

Every year, the Department of Senior Affairs hosts the annual luncheon at one of its senior or multigenerational centers, providing a welcoming atmosphere for older adults seeking connection and celebration on Christmas Day.

“The holidays are the ideal time to step up, lend a hand, and make sure everyone feels cared for and appreciated,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “When we come together like this, we’re not just sharing a meal, we’re building the kind of community that makes Albuquerque a great place to call home.”

Guests were treated to a classic holiday menu of roast beef, mashed potatoes, vegetables, and posole served by Department of Senior Affairs staff and volunteers. With close to 150 attendees, the event has become a beloved tradition that many look forward to each year.

“I’ve been coming to Manzano Mesa for over 20 years, so I was very excited when I found out that Christmas lunch would be hosted here again this year,” said Janet Porter, a longtime member of the center. “Of course, the music and decorations were beautiful, but most importantly, I got to spend the day with some of my closest friends.”
