On behalf of Mayor Richard J. Berry, Public Safety Director Darren White recognized three Friday’s Heroes this week: a 911 Operator, an Albuquerque Police Department Dispatcher, and an Albuquerque Fire Department Dispatcher who worked together to identify the location of a six year old boy whose mother was experiencing a medical emergency.

Receiving a medical call at a nursing home was nothing unusual for the crew of Engine 5. But on Thursday, July 15 there was nothing routine about the call they received to help a woman who was ill at a nursing home near Louisiana and Central NE.

Captain Marc Boisvert, Driver David Ortega, and Firefighter Joshua Jaramillo received this week’s Friday’s Heroes award. Each week Mayor Berry recognizes at least one public safety employee who goes above the call of duty.

At 3:00pm on July 28th, a 16 year old male was crossing the arroyo at Juan Tabo and Candelaria in Albuquerque, NM with minimal water visible. On his second step into the arroyo, an enormous gush of water knocked him off his feet and carried him west down the arroyo. A friend of his called 911 from the scene.

Fire Department Launches Life-Saving Smartphone App

Smartphone app PulsePoint is now available within Albuquerque city limits. 

The Citizens' Independent Salary Commission studied the roles of the Mayor and City Councilors, sought input from the public, and studied like-size municipalities. After careful study and a transparent review process, the Commission has determined increases in salaries for the Mayor and City Councilors.

The Albuquerque Police Department must improve its ability to collect and analyze overtime data associated with DWI cases. By capturing data, APD will be able to quantify and substantiate the impacts that external factors and inefficiencies, such as Metro Court scheduling, have on the Department. This data is an important element that will provide valuable information through which the department can manage overtime and affect change, such as reducing the number of DWI cases dismissed for officer FTA, and decreasing DWI overtime court costs.
