ALBUQUERQUE – One of two victims who were stabbed during a confrontation in Southwest Albuquerque over the weekend has died as a result of his wounds. APD’s Homicide Unit is taking over the investigation.
The deceased victim is Fred Tapia, 73.
Officers responded on around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, to reports of a stabbing at 8715 Central Ave., S.W.
The initial investigation determined two men were traveling in a white Dodge truck on west Central Avenue and swerved around three people – two males and a female – who were walking in the middle of the road. The three individuals approached the men in the truck on foot in front of the Breaking Bud Dispensary.
One male suspect kicked the 73-year-old man who was the passenger in the truck, knocking him to the floor. The other male suspect was armed with a knife, and a fight ensued between two suspects who had been on foot and the two victims who were in the truck.
A Good Samaritan witnessed the attack on the 73 year old victim1, and came to his defense fighting off the offenders. Both victims were stabbed multiple times in the chest area. The female who was seen with both suspected male individuals prior to the altercation walked away east without ever engaging in the altercation.
The investigation is ongoing.
