ALBUQUERQUE – APD’s Traffic Unit responded Tuesday to a serious injury crash at Lead Ave SE and Montclaire Dr SE. Upon arrival officers learned a 7-year-old boy had been struck by a vehicle.

Officers learned the boy was walking westbound on the north sidewalk of Lead Ave SE. Witnesses stated they saw the boy walking by himself and knew it wasn’t safe for him to be doing so. They stopped and tried getting the boy’s attention to draw him away from the roadway. When they were trying to get his attention the boy all of a sudden turned to his left and stepped into the roadway. When the boy stepped into the roadway he was struck by a black Dodge charger. Witnesses stated the charger hit the brakes but was unable to stop in time and struck the boy.

The boy was transported to UNMH for his injuries. The boy is listed in critical condition at this time.

Alcohol was not a factor and it does not appear speed was a contributing factor. At this time there no pending charges, this is an ongoing investigation.
