Albuquerque, N.M. – On May 2, 2022, the United States Marshals Service Southwest Investigative Fugitive Task Force (SWIFT) arrested Jonathan Gabriel Martinez in the northeast area of Albuquerque.
A felony arrest warrant had been issued in Bernalillo County in October of last year. Martinez had been charged in the July 10, 2021 murder of Trevonte Robbins. During the incident, Robbins was struck and killed by gunfire and another victim sustained gunshot injuries. This incident occurred in the vicinity of Central Ave and 4th St. in Albuquerque.
The warrant, filed in the Second Judicial Circuit, charges Jonathan Gabriel Martinez with first degree murder, conspiracy, aggravated battery with a deadly Weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and assault with intent to commit a violent felony (murder). The U.S. Marshals Service was asked to join the investigation in search of Martinez in November 2022.
Upon his arrest today, investigators found a silver revolver on the floorboard of the vehicle Martinez had been driving and a woolen “ski-mask,” with apertures for the eyes and mouth.
“Today’s arrest of Martinez is significant because it sends a message to all violent offenders that they will not be allowed to continue to instill fear in our community,” said Sonya K. Chavez, United States Marshal for the District of New Mexico. “Our community deserves peace of mind and so do the families of the victims of these heinous crimes.” she added.
“This investigation highlights the strong partnership the Albuquerque Police Department shares with our many law enforcement partners,” said Harold Medina, Chief of the Albuquerque Police Department. “Martinez’ arrest is an example of how working together can bring significant cases like this to an end and give some closure to the victims’ families.” he added.
