Man Involved in Two Road Rage Incidents, Wanted for Robberies
Kshawn Cornwell was arrested and charged with Robbery, Aggravated Eluding, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon and Shooting from a Motor Vehicle.
On 05-03-2017 at about 1:20 p.m. officers were dispatched to two separate calls in the Northeast Area Command. The first call was a crash located at the intersection of Comanche Rd and Morningside Dr. A caller had reported a vehicle crashed into a block wall on the southwest corner of this intersection then fled the scene. Soon after officers were told a citizen observed two vehicles in what appeared to be a road rage incident and one driver shooting at the other driver. During the officers investigation they were able to determine this was the same vehicle that crashed into the wall. The victim of this incident contacted police as well.
Officers were looking for this vehicle and located the vehicle on Washington St near Palo Duro Ave. An officer attempted a traffic stop of the vehicle where it attempted to go around another vehicle, lost control and crashed a second time near Washington St and Comanche Rd after it attempted to flee from officers. The driver later identified as Kshawn Cornwell was observed climbing out of the passenger window and running from the crash in an attempt to elude police.
Officers were advised by construction workers in the area that the male was seen attempting to get into a home in the 4000 block of Comanche Rd. This is where officers were able to catch up to him and take him into custody. During the officers investigation they discovered Cornwell was responsible for firing shots at two separate victims in road rage incidents throughout the day. Officers learned as he was firing shots at the driver near Comanche Rd and Morningside Dr that he lost control of his vehicle and hit the block wall. The incident from earlier in the day involved a large truck where Cornwell fired shots at the truck then fled the area. Both victims of the road rage incidents had damage to their vehicles from the bullets fired at their vehicles by Cornwell and were able to describe him.
Thankfully no one was injured and officers were able to take Cornwell into custody without incident. The Northeast Area Command field officers did an outstanding job quickly establishing a perimeter and taking Cornwell into custody before he was able to gain entry into someones home. Cornwell has also been connected to several robberies that were committed this year of a 7-11, Verizon Store, Metro PCS and a Wienerschnitzel. Cornwell was known to wear a Ninja Turtle mask during these robberies.
Cornwell was booked for Robbery with a Deadly Weapon (2 counts), Aggravated Eluding, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery (2 counts), Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (4 counts), Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon (2 counts) and Shooting from a Motor Vehicle (2 counts) and is currently being held at MDC with no bond.
