APD’s Duke City Stat Drives Coordinated Crime-Fighting

A Data-Driven Approach to Reducing and Preventing Crime in Albuquerque
March 18, 2025

ALBUQUERQUE- The Albuquerque Police Department’s Duke City Stat meetings are transforming the way the department tackles crime, using strategic coordination and intelligence to take offenders off the streets.

Each week approximately 75 members from various     bureaus the Albuquerque Police Department  come together to analyze crime trends, share critical case updates, and identify repeat offenders and problem locations. Implemented under Chief Harold Medina’s leadership in 2019, Duke City Stat has become a force multiplier—breaking down silos and ensuring officers have the tools and information they need to act swiftly and effectively.

This week at Duke City Stat, APD officials analyzed a recent case involving an individual who was pointing a weapon at an unknowing police officer while the officer was conducting a traffic stop. A concerned resident reported this incident to the officer and described the suspect vehicle. Shortly after, the officer heard shots being fired in the area and attempted to locate. With the help of residents, the officer was able to retrieve suspect information which matched the suspect information of the pointed firearm incident. The officer shared this information with the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) and through the use of license plate readers, the suspect vehicle was identified and an officer safety bulletin was shared by the Investigations Bureau. A few days later, the suspect vehicle was located by the initial officer who had the firearm pointed at him. Through internal information sharing amongst the Field Services, Investigations and Support Services Bureaus, officers were able to connect, identify and take the suspect into custody. Officers are still working to secure a search for the suspect vehicle.

“This is just one of the many cases that Duke City Stat has had a positive impact on,” said Chief Harold Medina. “The internal communication and advanced technology combined have made this department more successful in solving and preventing critical incidents.”

“Duke City Stat showcases the investments we’ve made in APD and the results they’re delivering,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Information that was once locked in separate divisions is now actively shared, allowing our officers to work smarter and keep our city safer.”

With Duke City Stat driving innovation, APD is making critical breakthroughs in crime-fighting—ensuring Albuquerque remains proactive in tackling public safety challenges.
