APD searching for suspect in overnight DV-related homicide
ALBUQUERQUE – APD detectives are searching for Chase Cuffie, 39, who is accused of fatally shooting another man as he confronted his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint in Northwest Albuquerque.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting Saturday shortly before midnight at an apartment located at 9251 Eagle Ranch Rd., N.W. When they arrived on scene, officers located the victim, an adult male, who was deceased. The victim suffered gunshot wounds and bullet casings were seen in the living room.
According to the woman who lives in the apartment, she and two friends – a male and female – were having drinks. They went to our first-floor patio to smoke cigarettes when a man emerged from an outdoor storage room with a black handgun. The man had a shirt covering his face, but the woman told police she recognized him as her ex-boyfriend, Chase Cuffie, who had been stalking her for several months.
Cuffie yelled at the women and pushed them at gunpoint, ordering them to go inside the apartment. She said her male friend started running for the door and Cuffie shot at him several times, striking and killing him. The victim’s identity is not being released, pending notification of next of kin.
The woman said she ran to a neighbor’s apartment and called police.
Police are searching for Cuffie, who is considered armed and dangerous.
