APD releases episode 8 of Duke City Case Files
ALBUQUERQUE – The Albuquerque Police Department has released its 8th episode of the Duke City Case Files, a video series created to help garner tips in unsolved homicides.
The latest episode features the 2018 homicide of Antonio Gomez, 24, who was shot and killed near San Pedro Drive S.E. and Gibson Boulevard S.E. on October 6, 2018.
Gomez was skateboarding with a friend near the Subway restaurant along Gibson where they were going to get some food. Gomez fell behind, and when his friend turned around they saw him being chased by four, possibly six people. Someone within that group pulled out a firearm, striking Gomez.
“He played music, he was an amazing athlete, I have a wall full of his art that was so unique,” said Antonio’s father, Santiago Gomez. “This is a fix that I as a person can do, I can take care of somebody’s grief for once, and do something that nobody else in this world can do, give them a little peace. And so, have a little courage just a tiny bit of courage to come forward and give anything that really would help give us relief, because that is what it really boils down to, we are the ones left alive to have to deal with it.”
Detectives believe the shooting may have been motivated over a small amount of drugs. Investigators continue to investigate this homicide and are still conducting interviews and following up on leads in the case, but more information is needed.
"Our community breeds creative minds and bright and beautiful minds every single day in every corner of the city and that doesn’t mean that they are exempt from this type of violence that can occur, which is why we have to treat every case the same and we do treat every case the same no matter where someone is in their life, they don’t deserve to die like this,” said Commander Kyle Hartsock of the Criminal Investigations Division.
The new episode, released May 1, can be viewed here.
A new case is featured and released at the beginning of each month. The videos can be found on APD’s social media platforms including YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Anyone with information on this case or any other featured, can report anonymously to the Albuquerque Metro Crime Stoppers at (505)-843-STOP or p3tips.com/531.
