January 27, 2025

ALBUQUERQUE – The Albuquerque Police Department has released its 11th episode of the Duke City Case Files, a video series created to help garner tips in unsolved homicides.

The latest episode features the 2022 homicide of Christian Nieto, 35, who was shot and Motel 6 located at 13141 Central Avenue NE, on June 24, 2022. Nieto, a father to two young children, later died from his injuries.

Officers were called to the Motel for reports of a person being shot. When they arrived, they located Christian lying in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to the stomach. People in the area were trying to help him until paramedics arrived.

“He loved, loved, loves sports,” said Jeanette Nieto, Christian’s mom. “He was a Vikings major fan, and he was a Lakers fan, he always followed Kobe. He would just watch the sports channels for hours, it was his a huge part of his life.”

Officers on scene were quickly told by witnesses they should be looking for a silver sedan, a four-door car. That car was later located and had been reported stolen.

Surveillance video was recovered that captured the silver sedan driving through the parking lot.  Christian can be seen talking to someone in the car just prior to him being shot. The driver than shoots Christian and flees the area.

"The family, they are left now wanting answers on what happened to their dad, their son, to their sibling, and we as a community owe them that we are trying everything we can to give them those answers,” said Commander Kyle Hartsock. “While our investigation will never close, any lead no matter how small, you might think it is can have an immediate impact on this case. Please come forward, you can remain anonymous or you can leave your information if you want to talk further and help us get this case charged, and let us get answers to Christian’s family.”
