APD Recognizes Retail Partners and Announces Future Plans
ALBUQUERQUE – The Albuquerque Police Department (APD) held an award ceremony to recognize partnership with local retail partners for the “Sticky Fingers” operation that took place earlier this summer. The APD “Sticky Fingers” operation was held to target retail theft in partnering stores and reduce the impact of shoplifting. Officers worked closely with the retail partners and were staged at nearby locations, ready to contact suspected shoplifters inside the stores. Retail partners of all sizes registered their businesses for this operation. The partnership doesn't end at arrest; the same retailers pledged to participate in prosecution to ensure the justice system has the opportunity to fully apply the law to any offender.
During the operation, officers arrested 196 people for new crimes related to retail theft and 42 people were arrested for outstanding warrants when contacted for loitering outside of retail stores.
APD also announced the beginning of their holiday plan which began Saturday, October 14, 2023 and will run through the holiday season ending on December 31, 2023. The holiday plan will place emphasis on shoplifting, arresting individuals with warrants, and the continued enforcement efforts along Central Avenue.
Local retailers, regardless of size, can register to participate in these anti-shoplifting efforts here.
