APD Provides Updates on Two Crashes

ALBUQUERQUE – On Thursday April 28, 2022 The Albuquerque Police Department investigated on fatal and one serious injury crash. Below are the updates to both investigations.
Louisiana and Holly Ave. NE:
On 04/28/22 the Traffic Unit responded to the area of Holly Ave. NE and Louisiana Blvd. NE in reference to a fatal crash. Upon arrival it was learned that a white Ford pickup was traveling east through the intersection of Holly and Louisiana NE when it was struck by a blue Ford pickup.
According to a witness, the blue ford pickup was traveling south on Louisiana and ran the red light. The driver and passenger of the white ford pickup were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the blue pickup was also transported to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. At this time there are no charges and it does not appear speed was a factor. It is unknown if alcohol was a contributing factor at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
Tramway Blvd. and Central Ave. NE:
On 4/28/22, shortly before 1:00p.m. Motors officers were called out to a fatal crash at Central Ave. NE and Tramway Blvd. A semi driver was traveling southbound on Tramway and a pedestrian crossed the road as the semi driver's light turned green.
The semi driver hit the pedestrian, then pulled into the Alon gas station on the southwest corner of the intersection. The driver exited the semi, then got back into the semi and drove away. The semi was stopped shortly after in the area of Central and Vermont and the driver was placed under arrest. The driver, John Gwinn, 55 is suspected of being impaired during the time of the crash.
Gwinn was booked into MDC on charges of Homicide by Vehicle, Leaving the scene of a crash with Great Bodily Harm, Aggravated DWI and Possession of Methamphetamine.
The pedestrian struck during the crash is currently listed in critical condition.
