APD posts monthly crime stats

ALBUQUERQUE – The Albuquerque Police Department posted monthly crime stats comparing 2022 and 2023 on its web site.

The crime stats from January through August show continued decreases in some violent crimes such as homicides and robbery, as well as most property crimes, including burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft.

Crimes that have increased between 2022 and 2023 include aggravated offenses, vandalism and stolen property.

Drug and narcotics offenses have increased, reflecting more aggressive enforcement of drug possession crimes. This category of crime stats is more dependent on enforcement because there are fewer victims who report drug possession crimes.

Increase in weapon violations generally reflect the increase in Shot Spotter coverage throughout Albuquerque. Each time an officer is dispatched to a gun detection activation that is considered in the weapon violations category reported in the crime stats.
