APD Issues 1,538 Citations during Traffic and Park Enforcement Operations

ALBUQUERQUE – The Albuquerque Police Department issued 1,538 traffic citations during recent operations targeting traffic hot spots and speeding near city parks.

From July 25 through Aug. 2, officers worked Traffic and Parks Operations where Area Commands had received community concerns over criminal activity and complaints of speeding and traffic violations.

For the speeding operations, Traffic officers also assisted and were looking for speeding and drag racing violations, making 540 of the traffic citations. Northwest Officers also collectively issued a high number of citations at 400.

“Quality of life concerns have always been a priority for our department,” said Chief Harold Medina. “It is because of these proactive operations throughout our city that we are seeing success in improving issues that have historically been of concern.”

Below are the results from the nine-day operation:

• 1, 538 Traffic Citations
• 7 Felony Arrests
• 5 Felony Warrants Cleared
• 15 Misdemeanor Citations
• 2 Misdemeanor Arrests

Below are the areas of concern by Area Command that officers specifically targeted for the traffic operations:

• Foothills: Lomas Blvd from Eubank to Juan Tabo Blvd and Menaul Blvd from Eubank to Juan Tabo Blvd NE.
• Northeast: Montgomery corridor Carlisle to Eubank Blvd.   
• Southeast: Central Ave from San Pedro to Eubank. Gibson Blvd from San Mateo to Louisiana Blvd. Southern Blvd from Moon to Eubank Blvd (graveyard street racing)
• University: Lead Ave from University Blvd to Interstate 25. Indian School Rd from Carlisle to Harvard NE. Constitution from Carlisle to Stanford.
• Valley: Lomas Blvd, Mountain St, and  2^nd
• Southwest: Coors Blvd, 98^th St, and Central Ave.  
• Northwest: Rainbow Blvd between Paseo Del Norte and Unser Blvd. Coors Blvd from Montano to Western Trail. Westside Blvd between Golf Course and NM 528.

Below are the parks of concern by Area Command that officers specifically targeted for the park operations:

• Foothills: Singing Arrow Park and the Bike Park.
• Northeast: Montgomery Park and North Lueking Park   
• Southeast: Jack and Jill Park - Due to the closing of the alley way at Central and San Pedro this area is likely to see an increase in unhoused individuals using the park to set up tents etc. Tom Bollack and Urban Forest Park between Zimmerman and I-40 from Dakota St to Louisiana. Several camps have been seen in this park due to the secluded area and foliage that allows for persons and camps to remain hidden and unseen.
• University: Morningside Park. Wellesley Park (due to burglaries in area). Roosevelt Park. Summit Park
• Valley: Robinson Park and Los Duranes Park.
• Southwest: Alamosa Park, Pat Hurley Park and Tower Park.    
• Northwest: Seville Park, Paradise Skies Park, and Parway Park.
