APD investigating tragic shooting death of 11-year-old boy

ALBUQUERQUE – APD homicide detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that resulted in the tragic death of an 11-year-old boy.

Officers quickly responded to the shooting shortly before 9 p.m. on Sept. 6, 2023, in the area of 1155 Avenida Cesar Chavez, S.E. Officers learned that shots were fired into a vehicle that was traveling westbound from the area of Isotopes Stadium on Avenida Cesar Chavez and University Blvd. The 11-year-old boy, later identified as Froylan Villegas, was discovered to be deceased inside the vehicle. A second victim, an adult female, was also shot. She was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
