Mon. Oct. 4, 2021
ALBUQUERQUE- On October 3, 2021 around 7:00p.m. the Motor Unit was called out to a serious injury crash located at San Mateo Blvd NE and Lumber Ave NE. During our investigation it was learned a motorcyclist was traveling Westbound on Lumber Ave NE from San Mateo Blvd NE. A Mercedes four-door sedan was exiting the parking lot turning Eastbound on Lumber. There was a semi-truck with an attached trailer which was parked on Lumber Ave NE which may have contributed to a decreased field of view for both the Mercedes and the motorcyclist.
The driver of the Mercedes pulled out of the exit of the parking lot and in front of the motorcyclist. The motorcyclist crashed into the Mercedes where the he was ejected. The motorcyclist received serious injuries and was transported to the University of New Mexico Hospital in critical condition.
The driver and passenger of the Mercedes were not injured and remained on scene. Motor officers were able to interview the driver and passenger of the Mercedes on scene. This investigation is ongoing. It appears speed from the motorcyclist may be a factor for the crash. It does not appear alcohol was a factor for the crash.
