APD investigating deadly hit and run crash

ALBUQUERQUE – APD officers were dispatched to a deadly hit-and-run crash late Friday around 11:10 p.m. in the area of Louisiana Blvd. and Indian School Rd., N.W. The Fatal Crash Unit responded to start an investigation.

Through the investigation it was discovered that a pedestrian was in the north crosswalk of Louisiana and Indian School walking eastbound. Video shows that he was crossing with a red crossing light and a green light for cross traffic. The pedestrian walked in the crosswalk into northbound Louisiana Blvd NE. The video shows the traffic signal for northbound traffic change from green to yellow, and then to red.

A black Izuzu SUV is then seen in the intersection in the number 2 lane of northbound traffic going north. The SUV struck the pedestrian in the north crosswalk in the number 2 lane. The pedestrian appeared to flip onto the vehicle head striking the vehicle’s front windshield. The man was carried forward on the vehicle and then flipped off the vehicle to the right side.

The SUV continued north on Louisiana Blvd NE to Menaul Blvd NE. The vehicle turned west on Menaul Blvd and traveled west until out of sight of cameras.

The SUV is unknown at this time. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene.
