APD Draws Attention to 30 year-old Cold Case

Case being featured on department’s Duke City Case Files

ALBUQUERQUE – The Albuquerque Police Department is drawing attention to a 30 year-old cold case. The case is featured on the 10th Episode of the Duke City Case Files.

On June 6, 1994, UNM Police and Albuquerque Police were called out to investigate after the dismembered body of a young woman was found inside a manhole behind The Pit. The woman was identified as 23 year-old Lisa Wortman.

Lisa was born and raised in Albuquerque, and was an identical twin. Lisa attended UNM and studied to become a lawyer. She was also well-known for hosting large rave parties that were drug-free and alcohol-free, and drew many people to her events.

“Because of how she was found, that person’s still out there,” said Lisa’s twin sister Lori Dibenedetto. “Because of the savageness of the whole thing, it’s disturbing that that person is still out there and is capable of doing this again. Just because of that, I think that person needs to be brought to justice.”

In 2022, APD took over the case from UNMPD and has been investigating ever since. Revisiting leads, and speaking with those who knew Lisa is part of the work now being conducted by investigators.

“After all these years, people hold onto information, and so I’m confident that somebody out there knows something, or witnessed something,” said Investigator Ida Lopez. “I’m hoping that bringing this out into the forefront again, that it’s either weighing on somebody, or somebody’s ready to come forward, and just share that bit of information that would break this case wide open and hopefully have the answers that her family deserves.”

Lisa’s ex-boyfriend Carlos has enhanced the Crime Stoppers reward to $9,500 in hopes someone will come forward with information.

If you have any information about Lisa’s case, you can report anonymously to Albuquerque Metro Crime Stoppers at (505)-843-STOP (7867), p3tips.com/531, or you can TEXT “ABQCS” to 738477.
