APD detectives arrest man for 2022 murder in SE Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE – APD homicide detectives arrested Jose “Satellite” Sanchez on Thursday and charged him for the 2022 murder of a woman at a Southeast Albuquerque apartment complex.

Sanchez, 28, is accused of fatally shooting Shania Spencer on Jan. 22, 2022, during an argument over a stolen gun. Witnesses said Sanchez shot Spencer inside an apartment at 7900 Bell Ave., S.E.

Detectives learned that Sanchez attacked Spencer with an axe a week prior to the shooting. He was also a suspect in another shooting and a victim in a third shooting. Detectives got a DNA warrant for Sanchez while he was hospitalized that connected him with the other two shootings.

Additional investigation into Sanchez’s cell phone records and witness interviews generated additional evidence that connected him to the murder of Spencer.

Sanchez was arrested Thursday and charged with an open count of murder. He was booked into the Metro Detention Center.
