APD Conducts Bosque Cleanup Operation
ALBUQUERQUE – Over the last two weeks, APD’s collateral Open Space officers and police service aides worked with the City’s Parks and Recreation Open Space division and the Albuquerque Community Safety Department (ACS) to conduct the second Safe Unsheltered Rio Grande Enforcement (SURGE) operation in the Bosque.
The operation resulted in the following results:
- 13 camps cleaned
- 2 individuals offered services by ACS
- 9 citations issued
- 1 felony warrant arrest
- 4 weapons removed from the camps
Operations like this one are conducted to protect open spaces and the people who use them while the department builds the revamped, full-time Open Space division. APD is currently accepting applications for the recently created position of Open Space Conservation Officer. This is a lateral position and offers a $15,000 hiring bonus.
