APD charges mother for death of her 4-month-old child

ALBUQUERQUE – APD charges mother with the death of her 4-month-old child in April.

APD’s Crimes Against Children Unit charged Christina Bennett, 31, with child abuse resulting in death following an investigation into allegations that she abused the infant prior to her death.

Officers responded on April 21, 2023, to a report of an unresponsive child at a home at the 10000 block of Ralph Street NE. Bennett had taken the deceased infant to the infant’s grandparents’ home after reportedly using illegal drugs through the night.

An autopsy did not determine the cause and manner of death, but meth was detected in the baby’s blood.

Detectives determined Bennett was operating a vehicle under the influence of an illegal drug and put a syringe in her arm, and was known to breastfeed the baby.

Bennett was arrested at that time on an outstanding felony warrant and booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center, where she remains. She now faces new charges related to her child’s death.
