APD arrests woman for today’s murder in SE Albuquerque
ALBUQUERQUE – APD homicide detectives charged and arrested Geraldine Begay for today’s murder of a man in front of an apartment in Southeast Albuquerque.
According to witnesses, Begay was in a physical fight with a man this morning shortly before 11 a.m. at the Lanai apartments, located at 1033 Madeira Ave., S.E. Witnesses said the man lived in an apartment and he was friends with Begay who visited him often.
As they fought, witnesses said Begay threw several objects at the man and kicked him, even after he fell to the ground at the door of his apartment. The man had a visible laceration behind his ear and a large bump on the back of his head.
Officers and rescue personnel attempted life-saving measures on the man, but he died as a result of his wounds.
Officers detained Begay and she later spoke to homicide detectives. She denied being in a physical dispute with the man. Detectives worked with the District Attorney’s Office, and decided to charge Begay with an open count of murder, tampering with evidence and robbery.
