Friday, Nov. 18, 2022
ALBUQUERQUE – APD detectives arrested Brian Chee late Thursday and charged him with the murder of Kelvin Willie on Nov. 8, 2022, in the area of 2nd St. and Arvada Ave., N.W.
Chee, 31, is accused of severely beating Willie over the course of 40 minutes on a sidewalk along 2nd Street, across from Steelbridge Resource Center.
Willie called 911 on the evening of Nov. 8 to report that he was assaulted, and that he needed an ambulance. He was conscious when police and rescue units arrived at the scene. He repeated that he was “beat up” four times. Willie was transported to the hospital where he later died as a result of his wounds.
Homicide detectives determined through investigation and video surveillance that Willie and Chee were among a small group of unsheltered people that gathered in the area on the afternoon of Nov. 8. Several individuals came and went over a few hours. Eventually, Chee and Willie got into a physical fight. Chee was seen sitting with Willie after the beating, and he walked away after about 10 minutes.
Chee was booked into the Metro Detention Center late Thursday on an open count of murder.
