ALBUQUERQUE – APD arrests suspect who fired multiple shots at them through an apartment door in Northeast Albuquerque.

Jeremy Hovey is accused of firing multiple shots from an apartment and through the front door, where four officers were announcing for him to exit. Hovey yelled, “Fuck You!” and fired a barrage of shots through the front door. Some of the drywall struck an officer, but no officers were hit by gunfire. None of the officers were injured.

“This shooting took place just days after one of our officers was shot, and hours after we held a news conference to talk about the danger that our officers are facing when they encounter suspects who are armed with firearms and willing to use them,” APD Chief Harold Medina said.

APD was initially dispatched to an apartment complex in the 5400 block of Montgomery Blvd for a family dispute call inside the apartment where Hovey was located. The caller advised Hovey had a gun to her head and she was only able to communicate with dispatchers by pressing keys on the keypad of the phone. Dispatch heard Hovey state, "If you called the cops I'm going to shoot through the door". Hovey was also heard saying, "I'm going to kill you".

After Hovey fired the gunshots, he exited the apartment and was taken into custody without incident. Officers then entered the apartment and located the caller who was inside and unharmed. Officers determined where the gunshots exited the apartment and checked on neighboring tenants. All neighbors were reported uninjured. Hovey was booked and charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one count of battery against a household member, four counts of aggravated assault upon a peace officer and one count of false imprisonment.
