APD Adds 19 New Officers as 121st Cadet Class Sworn-In
July 22, 2019
Mayor Tim Keller and APD Chief Mike Geier welcomed 19 new officers to the department as the 121st Cadet Class was sworn in today.
The cadet class represents the next phase of APD’s recruitment pipeline. With these new officers, APD now has 974 sworn officers on its force.
“In less than a year, we created a partnership between CNM and APD, and graduated our first class of police officers,” Mayor Keller said. “We are being creative, and investing in a new era of policing to address the public safety needs of our community. As we approach a police force of 1,000 officers, we are in a better position to attack crime from all sides.”
“We now have a new model for police training that allows for a better balance between Constitutional, community-based policing and providing officers the tools to keep communities safe,” Chief Geier said. “As we continue to increase the number of officers, we want to ensure those officers are fully prepared to serve, and to be future leaders in Albuquerque.”
