Planning Department Provides ABQ-PLAN Update

Vendor Tyler Technologies working transition backlog with “ABQ-PLAN”.
April 07, 2025

ALBUQUERQUE- Early this year the City’s Planning Department launched its new upgraded software platform, ABQ-PLAN (Albuquerque’s Planning Logistics and Networking). ABQ-PLAN is an improved software platform with a new user-friendly public portal and dashboard that allows users to manage individual projects, submit plans, schedule inspections, pay fees, and more.

While the transition from the old systems to ABQ-PLAN went smoothly, the vendor for the software has had technical difficulties for a limited number of users. Planning Department staff are providing help to those affected and appreciate everyone's patience as they navigate this issue with the new platform.

Some applicants report that they cannot see certain files, are experiencing issues with uploading files, and are receiving timeout errors. Planning staff reported this issue to Tyler Technologies on February 28 and since then have been working with applicants to manually process their paperwork.  Although the unforeseen difficulties have created serious problems for several applicants, the Department has been making steady progress by directly working with the applicants. Most users of the new platform have been pleased with the update and note that the platform is more user-friendly.

“Typically, large software implementations take a little time to work through, in the long run this upgrade will drastically improve the process for everyone from large contractors to home remodel jobs.  In the meantime, we have escalated this issue to the highest levels we can with the vendor,” said Planning Department Director Alan Varela. “They assure us they are aware of the problem with their software, actively monitoring the situation, and working to fix this system error. The good news is that some of the temporary fixes by the vendor are helping; however, we require permanent solutions.”

"We continue to coordinate with the city to resolve the outstanding items," said General Manager for Tyler Technologies’ Enterprise Permitting and Licensing Solutions Greg Savard. "We apologize for the inconvenience users and staff may have experienced."
