Metro Joins Nationwide “Clear the Shelters” Adoption Event

The Animal Welfare Department (AWD) is partnering with NBCUniversal for the National Adoption event, Saturday, August 10 through Tuesday, September 10, at the Eastside and Westside shelters, and Lucky Paws located in Coronado Mall.

“This adoption event could not have come at a better time and we are so appreciative of NBCUniversal, Telemundo and Hill’s Pet Nutrition support,” said Carolyn Ortega, Director of Animal Welfare Department. “By adopting a shelter pet, you’re not only giving a pet a home, but it also leaves space in the shelter for those pets that really need us.”

People will be able to meet the pets and talk to an adoption councilor to get assistance in finding the pet that will fit their family. The adoption fee is waived for all pets. Each adoption will include spay or neuter, a microchip, required vaccinations, and one free initial vet visit. For dogs, you will receive one free dog training class. On every adoption, you will receive a gift bag from Hill’s Pet Nutrition.

“Overcrowding puts stress on these pets that already experiencing a lot,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “This is an ideal time to change a pet’s life by welcoming them into your loving home.”

This is the tenth consecutive year NBC and Telemundo owned stations are partnering with affiliate stations and animal shelters and rescues to promote pet adoption and raise funds for animal welfare. Since its inception in 2015, Clear the Shelters has helped more than one million pets find new homes.
