Shooting Range Park Fee Adjustment

Modest increase for the first time in 23 years.
November 01, 2024

Daily target range fees at the Shooting Range Park will increase effective January 1, 2025. The change affects pricing for adults, juniors, and seniors. Per person fees will increase $2. The new standard fee for adults for will be $8, while junior and senior fees will be $7. All other fees at the Shooting Range Park will remain unchanged.

Rates at the Shooting Range Park have not increased since July 1, 2001. City Council approved this fee increase in legislation for the FY25 City budget (R-24-36). This change will generate approximately an additional $30,000 per year into the General Fund.

“This modest fee adjustment is long overdue as costs to operate the park have risen substantially over the years,” said Parks & Recreation Department Director Dave Simon.

Costs for supplies at the park, including wood, paper targets, clay targets, target frames and cardboard, have increased exponentially. For example, a case of clay targets used to cost $4 and now costs $18.

The Shooting Range Park is a premiere shooting facility located on the West Mesa of Albuquerque. The park provides a safe environment for shooters of all ages to learn and practice shooting sports and safe firearm skills The City’s Open Space Division manages this publicly-accessible shooting range. Trained staff are on-hand at all times to ensure the safety of patrons.

Though park user fees do not pay for capital projects, numerous improvements are happening at Shooting Range Park. Atrisco Road, which provides access to the park, was repaved a few years ago. The City has made repairs to the park water system, added new signage and is working on an improved safety communication system and improvements to the park Wi-Fi system. A project to renovate buildings used for training and classroom instruction kicks off November 1. A new archery range is currently in the planning and design phase.
