Get Ready to Dive In – The City’s Summer Aquatics Schedule is Out Now
Make a splash this summer! The Aquatics Division of the Parks & Recreation Department (PRD) is sharing the official schedule for the City’s outdoor pools and splash pads. Here’s what the public can look forward to this summer:
Swimming Pools:
- May 24 – 26: All City outdoor pools open for the holiday weekend. (Indoor pools are open year-round, including on Memorial Day weekend.)
- May 27 – May 30: Outdoor pools closed for lifeguard training, emergency response training, facility cleaning, and final preparations.
- May 31: Regular summer pool schedule begins.
- June 9: Full summer programming begins, including swim lessons.
“Summer means swimming, and we’re getting ready for a great season of fun,” said PRD Director Dave Simon. “We also remind parents that swim lessons save lives. Every child should learn to swim.”
All of the City’s outdoor pools will be open in 2025, except for Sunport Pool, which is closed pending major structural, plumbing, and deck repairs. Significant funding for these repairs is included in the 2025 state capital outlay bill passed by the New Mexico Legislature and in the proposed 2025 G.O. Bond package that will go before voters in November.
Along with pools opening, 2025 will be the first full summer of operations for new spray pads at Alamosa Park and Westgate Community Center. The opening schedule for the City’s spray pads is as follows:
Spray Pads:
- May 24: Alamosa, North Domingo Baca, Civic Plaza
- June 9: Cesar Chavez Community Center/Phil Chacon Park, Wells Park, and Westgate Community Center
All of the City’s splash pads are open free to the public with the exception of Manzano Mesa, which is included in an annual $20 membership to the Manzano Mesa Multi-Generational Center. The splash pad at the Manzano Mesa Multi-Generational Center is undergoing renovation/expansion and is expected to remain closed this summer. Fee waivers can also be requested.
“We know kids and families are eager to have fun, cool off, and make memories at the pools and spray parks this summer,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “We have great free and low-cost options for families to enjoy throughout our neighborhoods.”
Summer swim passes are available for advance purchase at play.cabq.gov or in-person at any of the City’s swimming pools. Due to the popularity of Eisenhower Pool, Sierra Vista Pool, and the West Mesa Aquatic Center, session capacity is limited, and these facilities sell wristbands for open recreational swim times. Wristbands can be purchased in-person the day of or reserved online up to two days in advance. Family swim passes are also available.
Special deals at the City’s pools this summer include:
- Kids 17 and under swim for free on Sundays
- Children under the age of 2 swim for free
- $1 swim on Friday nights at select pools
- Free swim passes for foster families and children (new)
Swimming lesson registration for June classes opens at noon on Saturday, May 3 at play.cabq.gov. For July swimming lessons, registration opens at noon on Saturday, June 21.
