City Opens Cantina at Westside’s Ladera Golf Course

New food/beverage space latest investment in community.
October 24, 2024

Mayor Keller and other City officials gathered on the city’s Westside to “tee-off” and celebrate the opening of Ladera Golf Course’s new cantina. This new improvement is the latest investment in the Westside’s premiere 27-hole golf course. A 1,000 square foot remodel has added a cantina space that connects to the outdoor patio and banquet room, offering more room for golfers and events at Ladera’s clubhouse building. The City invites the community to come enjoy the space while enjoying one of the best views in Albuquerque.

“This is not just an improvement on the Ladera course, it’s an investment in the Westside community, and all the families who call it home,” said Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller. “This is a space that creates a sense of belonging; where folks can gather, share thoughts, enjoy themselves and this great community.”

The Department of Municipal Development managed this project. Construction took approximately 8 months and cost just over $714,000. Funding for this project came from City G.O. Bonds contributed by Councilor Louie Sanchez and state capital outlay funds contributed by State Senator Antonio Moe Maestas.

“Ladera Golf Course is one of the nicest public courses in the country,” said State Senator Moe Maestas. “The open air cantina adjacent to the patio area just adds so much to this west side amenity.”

Play at Ladera Golf Course has been steadily growing. In 2019, Ladera saw 47,107 rounds played.  In 2023, the City saw more than 300,000 golfers play more than 80,000 rounds at the course. Millions have been invested into Ladera over the past few decades.

“I’m still a beginner at golf, but I think I’m starting to understand it after 20 years,” said Chris Sanchez, Deputy Director of the Municipal Development Department. “Ladera has always been one of my favorite courses, and now I have even more of an incentive to visit here and play 19 holes.”

Ladera Golf Course was built in 1980 and is the Westside’s premiere 27-hole golf facility.
