City Invites Community to Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony
The Parks & Recreation Department (PRD) and the City’s Office of Military and Veterans Affairs will host a Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony on Monday, November 11. The public is encouraged to attend to celebrate and honor veterans and their service.
The parade kicks off at 9:00 a.m. at USS Bullhead Memorial Park and ends at 10 a.m. at New Mexico Veterans Memorial Park. Those interested in participating in the parade can learn more by filling out this online form. The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m.
“It’s important to pause and reflect on the incredible sacrifices our veterans have made to protect our country and freedoms,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Albuquerque is home to thousands of veterans, and we will always stand by them.”
The traditional tolling of bells will take place at 11:00 am to commemorate the armistice signed that ended World War I in 1918 (the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month). The keynote speakers will be the City’s Chief Administrative Officer Samantha Sengel, 377 Air Base Wing and KAFB Co. Colonel Michael Power, and Brigadier General (Ret.) Jack Fox. The Dukes of Albuquerque Concert Band will play throughout the course of the program.
This year’s ceremony will also feature a flyover courtesy of the New Mexico Chile Flight. Other partners for this event include the New Mexico Memorial Foundation, United Veterans Council of Greater Albuquerque, the New Mexico Rail Runner, and the Dukes of Albuquerque Concert Band.
“The City of Albuquerque recognizes and celebrates veterans every day, not just on Veterans Day,” said Thomas Tozier, Mayor’s Liaison and Coordinator of Military & Veteran Affairs. “I’m proud to be a part of a city that honors this service and gives back to the those who’ve given so much for our country.”
Opportunities are still available for volunteers who wish to assist with this event. For more information, please email [email protected]. You can also find more details by visiting cabq.gov/holiday.
