City offering relief this weekend during heat advisory.
August 16, 2024

The Parks & Recreation Department (PRD) is activating sprinklers in four parks tomorrow, August 17, as part of “Operation Cooldown 2024” as another triple digit temperature day is expected. This sprinkler play in parks gives families a fun, no-cost way to cool off as the outdoor pool season is winding down. The following parks (Group 3) will host sprinkler play from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow:

  • Redlands Park – 5121 Sequoia NW (Northwest Quadrant)
  • Loma Del Norte Park – 7511 Burke NE (Northeast Quadrant)
  • Singing Arrow Park – 12929 Piru SE (Southeast Quadrant)
  • Dennis Chavez Park – 715 Kathryn SW (Southwest Quadrant)

PRD is also ready to activate sprinklers on Wednesday, August 21, if the predicted temperature of 100 degrees holds. As many students are now back in school, PRD will be shifting the sprinkler play hours for this day to 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at another four parks (Group 4):

  • Shawn McWethy Park – 8660 Casa Verde NW (Northwest Quadrant)
  • Altura Park – 4200 Hannette NE (Northeast Quadrant)
  • Tiguex Park – 1714 Mountain NW (Southwest Quadrant)
  • Chelwood Park – 13205 San Juan NE (Southeast Quadrant)

The City’s pools and splash pads switched over to fall/winter hours on Monday, August 5 as APS students went back to school. Eisenhower Pool, Sierra Vista Pool, Wilson Pool, and Rio Grande Pool are open on the weekends only until September 2, 2024. All other outdoor pools are closed for the season. All of the City’s splash pads are closed except for North Domingo Baca and Civic Plaza, which will close on October 13, 2024.
