Hispanic Heritage Month Events Around Albuquerque
Hispanic Heritage Month is held every year starting September 15th to October 15th. This month is a great opportunity to celebrate and learn more about Albuquerque’s rich Hispanic roots and the long-standing contributions of Hispanic settlers to the history and culture of the city and state.
Hispanic Heritage Month began with one week of commemoration first introduced in 1968, and was later extended to a month in 1988. The month-long celebration begins in mid-September because that is when many Latin American countries declared independence from Spain. The celebration ends in mid-October when many Latin American countries honor Día de la Raza, which honors the indigenous people of the Americas on the day that used to be recognized as Columbus Day. There are over thirty events happening across the metro in celebration of this month, below is a listing of events curated by the Hispanic Heritage Committee.
