"We want to make sure that there’s a home in Albuquerque for everyone who can get here. I’m proud that our city is a refugee resettlement location. It has been now for almost 50 years. We are grateful for the folks who are making that happen, in a military capacity and in a civilian and diplomatic capacity."
- Mayor Tim Keller
- Albuquerque is and has been a refugee-welcoming City for decades.
- Albuquerque will serve in an assistance role to volunteers and nonprofit organizations helping to relocate Afghan refugees.
- Our Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs Liaison, Beatriz Valencia, will work directly with our community partners to help any refugees who relocate to Albuquerque feel at home and welcomed.
- The work of supporting refugee and immigrant communities is conducive to economic development, public safety and helping Albuquerque families and communities thrive.
- Our City is richer because of our vibrant refugee community. We developed the name for our International District based on the diversity of our refugee and immigrant communities who relocated to Albuquerque.
- We will continue to monitor the ongoing and developing situation with regard to Afghan refugees relocating to this country, specifically to the Southwest.
- Thank you to our nonprofit partners like Lutheran Family Services, Catholic Charities, APS Refugee and Newcomers Supports, NM Family Asian Center, Refugee Well Being Project, Afghan Society of New Mexico, Islamic Center of New Mexico and many other allies in their service to helping these refugees find their new home in the United States and in Albuquerque.
