ALBUQUERQUE - Downtown Albuquerque is now even more pet-friendly with the opening of a temporary pop-up dog park. Today, City leaders announced a new gathering space that gives Downtown residents and their four-legged companions the opportunity to play, socialize, and connect. The community-driven activation is designed to bring more energy to Downtown, while the City moves forward with planning a new housing development at the site.

“We’re breaking through on our vision of a downtown where people enjoy spending quality time with their families, friends, and pets,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “This shows how we can creatively activate underutilized spaces and bring new amenities for visitors and folks who live and work Downtown.”

Over the weekend, neighbors, local dog owners, and community members gathered to celebrate the park’s opening. The event introduced a safe, welcoming space for their pets while also offering valuable resources from Albuquerque Animal Welfare, including free personalized dog tags, vaccination vouchers, and pet care information.

“We’re always looking for innovative ways to activate vacant spaces in Downtown,” said MRA Director Terry Brunner. “Downtown residents have asked for more pet-friendly spaces, and we’re excited to bring this creative solution to life while we plan for long-term improvements.”

Community members are encouraged to visit the park, share their feedback by completing this survey, and help shape the future of pet-friendly amenities in Downtown Albuquerque.
