Route 66 Centennial Murals: Past, Present, Future

Apply to have a mural from the Creative Campus Collective added to your property along Route 66.

The words Route 66 Past, Present, Future inside of the outline of a road sign painted on a brick wall. Creative Campus Collective inside a blue paint spat on the wall above a paintbrush that has black pink and orange paint streaks coming off of it..

The Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency (MRA) is partnering with Creative Campus Collective-Albuquerque Public Schools for a community beautification project in honor of the Route 66 Centennial. Public art is a critical piece that helps to “set the stage” for the City’s upcoming Route 66 Centennial Celebration. Albuquerque contains the longest urban stretch of the historic Route 66—a legacy we celebrate. In preparation for the centennial, the MRA will invest in corridor beautification along Central Avenue by supporting community murals celebrating art, history, and culture along and around Route 66.

The MRA will select 6 properties along Route 66 for a mural from the Creative Campus Collective. Awardees must paint the wall white and select from pre-approved designs without alterations. The MRA will provide supplies and minimize business disruption during installation. Recipients must maintain the mural for three years and notify the City of any damage. The MRA retains the right to photograph and reproduce images of the mural.
