Volunteer Fest Offers Single Stop for People Who Want to Give Back

Free, all-ages City event connects residents with wide variety of volunteer opportunities.
April 07, 2025

The City of Albuquerque’s inaugural Civic Connections Volunteer Fest will connect attendees with meaningful volunteer opportunities that match their interests, skills, and schedules. Happening Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Albuquerque Museum, this free, all-ages event celebrates community engagement and makes it easier than ever for people to get involved, with more than 30 City departments and dozens of local nonprofits slated to participate.

To recognize the tremendous impact of volunteers in our city, the event will include door prizes, a selfie wall, activities, and a welcoming space for volunteers, community members, and coordinators to share stories, ideas, and solutions that drive community-led initiatives. Interested attendees can also learn about the new Civic Connections Ambassadors program and discover ways to help shape Albuquerque’s vibrant future.

“Volunteers play a critical role in strengthening and enhancing life in Albuquerque,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “With Volunteer Fest, we’re celebrating giving back, and welcoming everyone to step up and join in. Whether you’re a senior, a student, or someone who has never volunteered before, this is a great place to start.”

The contributions of volunteers add up for the entire community, and the work of volunteers have greatly benefited the City at all levels. In FY 2024, volunteers dedicated 618,771 hours, generating an estimated economic impact of $16,941,949.98 across City programs.

“Rio Grande Food Project has been mainly a volunteer-run organization for 36 years on Albuquerque’s westside,” said Rio Grande Food Project Community Resources Director Jose Gechem. “Our partnership with the City of Albuquerque and One Albuquerque Volunteers has helped us in so many ways and is a wonderful connector for people throughout the city to not only find out more about our food pantry, urban garden, and community hub, but to plug in and help us serve our food insecure neighbors.”

"Volunteer Fest is a fantastic way for Running 505 to connect with community members who are passionate about youth wellness, mentorship, and overall positive outcomes for our kids,” said Running 505 Founder and Executive Director Melani Buchanan Farmer. “Events like this strengthen civic connections and help create a healthier, more engaged community by empowering young people through movement, mentorship, and collaboration."

The event will also feature breakout sessions to provide valuable resources, including:

  • How to Use the One Albuquerque Volunteer Site – Led by Rachael Hernandez
  • Racial Equity 101 for Volunteers – Led by Tim Green
  • CABQ Support for Nonprofit Partners – Led by Mariah Harrison
