February 19, 2025

Do you know an amazing volunteer who makes our community a better place? Nominate them for the annual Mayor’s Day of Volunteer Recognition! The Albuquerque Volunteers Advisory Board has opened nominations for the ninth annual Mayor’s Day of Volunteer Recognition. Nominations can be submitted on the Mayor's Day of Volunteer Recognition webpage, and are due by 5 p.m. on March 7, 2024. Individuals and groups of volunteers will be celebrated at the recognition event on Friday evening, April 11, 2024 at the Albuquerque Museum.

“Every year, Liz and I look forward to celebrating the volunteers working to make our city a better place and reflecting on the spirit of civic engagement that makes Albuquerque so special,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Volunteers are heroes in our communities and champions for our families, and we hope that by helping share their stories and recognizing their work, more folks will be inspired to get involved.”

Nominations are being accepted for the following awards: Lifetime Achievement, Volunteer Group, Youth Volunteer, Older Adult of the Year, Corporate Volunteer Group, Volunteer of the Year, and one National Service award in association with the Serve New Mexico Commission.

Throughout the year, Albuquerque volunteers and volunteer groups do outstanding work in our communities. The Volunteers Board has recognized an array of folks who step up for others through youth mentorship, support of the arts and libraries, Master Gardeners leadership, Open Space volunteering, and even lifesaving efforts. The Board hopes to have many to consider from across Albuquerque, including nonprofits, City departments, neighborhood associations, public boards, coalitions and so on.

“The Mayor's Day of Volunteer Recognition ceremony celebrates the people who embody the One Albuquerque mindset and create incredible impact in our communities. It is an honor to serve on the Volunteers Advisory Board, working to ensure that Albuquerque's volunteers receive recognition for outstanding contributions to our City,” said Miriam McIntosh, Volunteers Board Chair. ”On a human level, this event brings me so much hope and joy seeing our fellow community members who go above and beyond each day to help others and their City.”

"Volunteers are the heart of our community," said Vaisu Bronk, Mayor’s Day Planning Chair. "We will celebrate those who go above and beyond, but we also honor the collective spirit of every volunteer whose dedication strengthens our city and enriches the lives of others each and every day."

This year’s event will again provide a livestream option, and tickets will be available on the Office of Civic Engagement website starting in March. Sponsorships are greatly appreciated as they assist the Board in curating a very special event.
