Mayor Tim Keller Encourages Folks to Safely Enjoy the Snow in the City’s Parks and Open Spaces

Mayor Tim Keller today encouraged Burqueños who can safely walk to a nearby park or open space area to get out and play in the recently fallen snow. The City has nearly 300 parks and more than 29,000 acres of open space to enjoy, many within walking distance of most residences.

“Albuquerque looks like a winter wonderland with all of this snow,” stated Mayor Keller. “What better way to enjoy it than to head to a nearby park or open space to go sledding, build a snowman, or take a peaceful hike. I encourage everyone to bundle up, head outside, and take in the beauty of the desert southwest after a snowstorm.”

Several parks around the city offer hills perfect for sledding or tubing, including Netherwood Park, Sierra Sunset Park, Paradise Skies Park, Tower Park, Roosevelt Park, Academy Hills Park, and Santa Fe Village Park. There are also miles of trails through the open space properties in the Sandia foothills perfect for a winter hike, a snowshoe adventure, or cross country skiing. Balloon Fiesta Park and the City’s four municipal golf courses are also great locations for cross country skiing and snowshoeing.

Those who decide to venture out should use caution as roadways and sidewalks remain icy in spots. It is also advised to wear warm clothing, weather-appropriate shoes, and to bring water with you.
