Mayor Tim Keller Announced Hawk Signal Near Cleveland Middle School is Up and Running
August 13, 2018
With students returning to school today, Mayor Tim Keller announced the completion of the HAWK Signal at Louisiana and Natalie. Mayor Keller was on hand to greet students and parents leaving school this afternoon.
“Making sure this signal was ready by the first day of school was a priority for me, as well as for parents and students in the area,” stated Mayor Tim Keller. “As we move forward, we’ll be looking at other similar intersections near schools. A crosswalk like this can make a big difference for keeping our kids safe.”
Over the summer, the Department of Municipal Development identified crosswalks within a quarter mile of every elementary and middle school in the City of Albuquerque. A team of DMD employees are in the process of studying the flow of pedestrians and vehicles using these crosswalks. DMD will present the findings to the Albuquerque City Council this fall and advise on improvements at crosswalks throughout the city.
The new initiative to assess crosswalks near schools is part of Mayor Tim Keller’s commitment to increase public safety throughout the city and step up for our kids.
