Mayor Keller Appoints Director of Albuquerque Community Safety
Today, Mayor Tim Keller announced that Jodie Esquibel will continue to lead the Albuquerque Community Safety Department (ACS) after serving as acting director since March, when founding director Mariela Ruiz-Angel was promoted to Associate Chief Administrative Officer.
“Albuquerque Community Safety is transforming public safety in our city, and making us a national leader in alternative response,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Jodie brings the right experience and perspective to make sure that ACS continues to meet the needs of our community and get people connected to the right help, at the right time.”
Jodie brings an exceptional background in emergency response spanning over two decades. As a highly motivated paramedic, she has garnered experience in field operations, special operation medicine, emergency medical services, community medicine, tactical medicine, and search and rescue operations.
Throughout her career, Jodie has showcased outstanding leadership, successfully building and managing programs that are still running and significantly impacting the communities they serve.
In addition to being a seasoned professional in her field, Jodie is also a professional athlete and a business owner, exemplifying discipline and dedication in all her endeavors. Born and raised in Albuquerque, her deep empathy for the community drives her commitment to serve.
“I look forward to continuing to work with and lead our incredible team as we grow in our community and serve those who are in need of our support,” said ACS Director Jodie Esquibel. “Albuquerque Community Safety was created based on direct feedback from the community, and we remain dedicated to evolving in response to their needs. Together with the public, our partners in law enforcement and emergency services, we are building a stronger, more inclusive network to ensure folks get the help they need.”
Jodie’s role as Director of ACS aligns with the evolving landscape of public safety, an area she finds both challenging and inspiring. She intends to enhance partnerships with community leaders, the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) and the Albuquerque Fire Department (AFR) and eagerly anticipates collaborating with them. Most importantly, she is honored to join the City with a mission close to her heart and is eager to collaborate and contribute to our community's safety.
