Today, Mayor Tim Keller and First Lady Elizabeth Kistin Keller were joined by faith leaders to celebrate the collective power of Albuquerque’s interfaith community to address the city’s most pressing challenges. Mayor Keller thanked leaders of the community for their service, and shared ways faith-based organizations can help uplift others in need.

“Our faith leaders provide a valuable piece to the puzzle in our efforts to address issues in our neighborhoods,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “We are stronger when we rally together.”

The featured speakers were Haven for Hope CEO Kim Jefferies of San Antonio and New Creation Albuquerque Church Pastor Jesse Harden, who used the opportunity to call faith-based organizations to action. They outlined their ongoing efforts to reach the most vulnerable residents in their respective communities. In particular, low-barrier shelter Haven for Hope’s one-stop-shop approach was highlighted. The speakers outlined a variety of ways that our local faith leaders can empower members of their congregations to join City efforts to make Albuquerque a better, safer place for families.

"Today, we witnessed the power of unity as faith communities come together to address one of our society's most pressing challenges,” said Haven for Hope CEO Kim Jefferies. “With compassion and commitment, we stand alongside those experiencing homelessness, offering not just shelter, but hope and the promise of a better tomorrow. Together, we are reminded that the strength of our community is measured by how we work together to care for those in need.”

First Lady Elizabeth Kistin Keller underscored the importance of community collaboration, inviting faith leaders to participate in tangible ways, such as bed-building events, holiday meal services, and ongoing clothing drives.

“Faith-based organizations bring a vital element of collaboration to our efforts in the community,” said First Lady Elizabeth Kistin Keller. “By working together, we can create pathways to stability and hope for our neighbors.”

The City will continue to work with the faith-based community and engage residents in collaborative action to address the most pressing issues facing Albuquerque.
